WASHINGTON (AP) — A freshman Democratic congressman is introducing a bill to protect the jobs of veterans working for the U.S. government amid mass firings by the Trump administration, the latest legislative response to the turmoil rippling across federal agencies.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derek Tran (D-CA) praised the passage of H.R. 832, the bipartisan Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act, a bill which makes clear that the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Advocacy has the authority to examine international economic data, and represent small business interests in international discussions, particularly in trade negotiations. Congressman Tran was joined by Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), Chairman Roger Williams (R-TX), and Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) as co-leads on this legislation.

Nearly two months after being officially sworn into Congress, 45th Congressional District Rep. Derek Tran was joined by members of the Cal State Fullerton and Orange County community at the Golleher Alumni House for a ceremonial swearing-in.

Coming into his first term in Congress, the newly elected Democrat will face the uphill battle of opposing Republican control over both chambers of Congress and the presidency.

Orange County officials broke ground on a new affordable housing complex designed to provide permanent housing for low-income veterans, students with families, and individuals and families with special needs.

The Lincoln Avenue Apartments, located at a former commercial property on Lincoln Avenue near Knott Avenue in Buena Park, will feature more than 50 low-cost housing units.

WASHINGTON – Today, Representatives Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, and Derek Tran (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, sent a letter to the Small Business Administration (SBA) demanding answers about the abrupt termination of SBA employees. Their inquiry follows a series of confusing and contradictory communications from the agency, including erroneous termination notices that were later reissued.

Washington, DC – Congressman Derek Tran, with Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan, led a coalition of 14 Democratic members of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) in a letter to Lieutenant General Steven W. Gilland, Superintendent of the United States Military Academy (USMA), concerning the abrupt disbanding of twelve select Directorate of Cadet Activities (DCA) sanctioned clubs. 


The Office of Congressman Derek Tran is no longer accepting requests for the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The submission deadline for FY27 programmatic and language requests is COB on Friday, March 13th, 2026. 

The submission deadline for FY27 Community Project Funding requests is COB on Monday, March 9, 2026. 

Please note that Congressman Tran will not be able to support all proposals that are received.
