Congressman Derek Tran Applauds Advancement of California Assembly Bill to Honor Fallen Veterans
Washington, DC – Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) released the following statement to celebrate the advancement of a California state bill that would allow the continued construction of the Gypsum Canyon Veterans Cemetery:
“As a Veteran myself, I am moved to see the California State Assembly vote in unanimous support of our Veterans,” said Congressman Tran. “Our Veterans have made the highest commitment to secure our freedom–we owe them our unwavering gratitude. Providing Orange County Veterans with an honorable resting place that reflects the gravity of their sacrifice is a welcome show of respect to those who served our country. I applaud Assemblymember Quirk-Silva for her leadership on this important piece of legislation, and I will always fight to uplift our Veterans in Congress.”
Assembly Bill 571 requests an exemption from California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) regulations to move forward with the construction of the Gypsum Canyon Veterans Cemetery. The bill aims to eliminate potential delays that could arise from lengthy environmental reviews and limits this exemption to this cemetery project to honor our veterans and for no other purpose. The legislation advanced out of the California State Assembly on Tuesday.
Congressman Tran has prioritized Veterans’ issues as a Member of Congress. His first piece of legislation, the Protect Veteran Jobs Act, supports the livelihoods of the Veterans who were wrongfully removed from their civil service positions and allows them to continue giving back to their country as part of the federal workforce. Congressman Tran also introduced the bipartisan Delivering Digitally to Our Veterans Act to allow Veterans the option for digital messaging related to the benefits delivered through the G.I. Bill, easing access to educational benefits for all Veterans.
