Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) issued a letter to U.S. Consul General Susan Burns, condemning her recent participation in events held by the Communist Regime of Vietnam commemorating the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon.
Congressman Tran is the son of Vietnamese refugees and the only Vietnamese American currently serving in Congress. He is the first Vietnamese American to represent CA-45 - home to the largest Vietnamese diaspora in the world.

Congressman Derek Tran is the only Vietnamese American currently serving in Congress, the son of Vietnamese refugees, and the first Vietnamese American to represent Orange County - home to the largest Vietnamese diaspora in the world - in Congress.

Judy Chu (CA-28), Sam Liccardo (CA-16), and Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), held a press conference to recognize April 30th as Black April and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. The Congressman was also joined by Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran and Christina Bich-Tram Le, a Vietnamese-American journalist and community activist from Little Saigon in Orange County, California.

Fifty years after the oppressive communist regime took hold of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975, and fifty years since the first wave of the exodus, Rep. Tran will honor the sacrifices and resilience of the Vietnamese refugee community and recognize the diaspora’s significant contributions to our nation.
