We caught up with Tran to hear how he’s preparing to mark the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, the freshman’s take on his opening months in Congress and how Democrats can win back the House.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) announced a series of events and ongoing projects commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, also known as Black April or “Tháng Tư Đen” in Vietnamese. Fifty years after the oppressive communist regime took hold of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975, and fifty years since the first wave of the exodus, Rep. Tran will honor the sacrifices and resilience of the Vietnamese refugee community and recognize the diaspora’s significant contributions to our nation.

Washington, D.C. – Hôm nay, Dân Biểu Derek Trần (CA-45) đã công bố một chuỗi sự kiện và dự án để tưởng niệm 50 năm ngày Sài Gòn thất thủ, còn được gọi là Tháng Tư Đen.  Năm mươi năm sau khi chế độ Cộng Sản áp bức chiếm miền Nam Việt Nam vào ngày 30 tháng 4 năm 1975, và năm mươi năm kể từ làn sóng di tản đầu tiên, Dân Biểu Trần sẽ vinh danh những hy sinh và lòng kiên cường của cộng đồng người Việt tị nạn, đồng thời ghi nhận những đóng góp to lớn của cộng đồng này cho đất nước Hoa Kỳ của chúng ta.

WESTMINSTER, CA – Today, Congressman Tran joined leaders in Westminster to officially unveil the newly designated "Little Saigon Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Post Office" located at 9317 Bolsa Avenue. The designation of the post office recognizes the bravery, sacrifice, and enduring commitment of Vietnam War veterans in the heart of the largest Vietnamese American community.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Derek Tran sent a letter to Secretary of State Rubio requesting immediate assistance to secure the release of Le Huu Minh Tuan. The government of Vietnam has faced consistent criticism for its human rights record, particularly regarding its treatment of political dissent. Many journalists, human rights advocates, and activists like Mr. Tuan have been unjustly detained under questionable circumstances.
