Washington, DC – Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) issued the following response to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress:
“Tonight, I went to the Capitol to listen to President Trump’s address with an open mind and a steadfast commitment to my constituents in California’s 45th district.
“I hoped to hear about the President’s plans to lower costs for working families, keep Americans safe, and protect our status as a global leader for freedom and democracy.
Rep. Derek Tran is supporting a bill, the Protect Veteran Jobs Act, which asks for any veteran terminated without reason from the federal government since President Trump’s turn, to be reinstated.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) introduced the Protect Veteran Jobs Act to reinstate Veterans who have been removed or dismissed from federal employment without cause since President Trump empowered Elon Musk to indiscriminately purge the federal workforce. The bill also requires each executive branch agency to report to Congress on a quarterly basis the veterans who have been removed from civilian service roles and the justification for such removal.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A freshman Democratic congressman is introducing a bill to protect the jobs of veterans working for the U.S. government amid mass firings by the Trump administration, the latest legislative response to the turmoil rippling across federal agencies.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derek Tran (D-CA) praised the passage of H.R. 832, the bipartisan Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act, a bill which makes clear that the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Advocacy has the authority to examine international economic data, and represent small business interests in international discussions, particularly in trade negotiations. Congressman Tran was joined by Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), Chairman Roger Williams (R-TX), and Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) as co-leads on this legislation.
