“Lunar New Year is so much more than a date on the calendar. It’s an opportunity for the Asian American communities in California - and across America - to reflect on our past, and open our hearts to the promise of the future,” said Representative Tran. “I want to extend my warmest wishes to everyone in our community for a joyful and prosperous Year of the Horse. Chúc mừng năm mới! Happy New Year!”
Representative Tran joined Lunar New Year celebrations across Orange County, standing alongside local leaders and community members to welcome the Year of the Horse. He is a cosponsor of a Congressional resolution to commemorate the cultural and historical significance of this Lunar New Year, as well as the Lunar New Year Day Act, which would recognize Lunar New Year as a federal holiday.
Representative Tran is the son of Vietnamese refugees who fled oppressive communist Vietnam following the fall of Saigon in 1975. As the first Vietnamese American to represent Orange County's Little Saigon neighborhood in Congress, he is committed to recognizing the diasporic significance of Lunar New Year among Asian American immigrant communities and uplifting their culture and history on the national stage.
