Representative Derek Tran on Garden Grove Hazardous Materials Incident

Garden Grove, CA – U.S. Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) issued a statement following reports of a toxic chemical leak at an aerospace facility in Garden Grove:

“I am closely monitoring the toxic leak at the GKN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove. My office is in close contact with local police, fire, and emergency response officials as they work to contain the hazardous materials, assess air quality, and ensure residents and first responders are safe. I am in contact with federal disaster relief officials, including FEMA and the EPA, to urge them to provide any available federal assistance for Garden Grove,” said Representative Derek Tran. “I encourage everyone in the affected area to follow guidance from local authorities and avoid the impacted zones until further guidance is issued. I will continue coordinating with our public safety partners and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

At around 3:30 PM on Thursday, May 21, Orange County Fire Authority crews received reports of a chemical leak from a storage tank at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove. A leak of methyl methacrylate, a volatile and flammable chemical, from a 34,000-gallon storage tank was confirmed, prompting evacuations in the surrounding area. Representative Tran is working closely with federal and local authorities to monitor the situation and respond to the community’s public safety needs.
