Rep. Derek Tran Demands Oversight of Immigration Enforcement in Southern California

Monday, June 9, 2025

LOS ANGELES, CA - Congressman Derek Tran released the following statement in response to his recent visit to the Adelanto ICE facility:

“I stand with the peaceful protesters exercising their First Amendment right to make their voices heard. Violence has no place in our society, and I condemn all acts of violence. I’m infuriated that a privately run ICE detention facility has prevented me from exercising my Constitutional obligation to conduct oversight over immigration enforcement and detention practices,” said Rep. Derek Tran. “Our local and state law enforcement can properly and lawfully manage this situation. However, President Trump’s unnecessary and premature deployment of the National Guard will create more fear and suppress free speech. Make no mistake, the Administration is creating an emergency out of their own making to sow division. I call on the media to accurately report on the peaceful demonstration and not just the inflammatory ones.  As I travel back to Washington to represent the people of Southern California, I am demanding a Congressional Oversight investigation into the private prisons holding ICE detainees that have refused access to Members of Congress seeking to monitor health and safety conditions and to investigate the alleged warrantless arrests made by ICE officers and CBP in LA. We must shed light on DHS’s discriminatory practices targeting California.”
