Congressman Derek Tran’s Statement on the Continuing Resolution

Tuesday, March 11, 2025

Washington, DC – Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) released the following statement on the Fiscal Year 2025 government funding bill, known as the Continuing Resolution (CR):

“I was sent to Congress by the people of California’s 45th district to look out for their interests. After careful consideration, I’ve concluded that the Continuing Resolution (CR) proposed by House Republicans will hurt the people of CA-45.

“In its current form, this budget proposal eliminates $21.8 million in critical community project funding that would support vital infrastructure and public safety investments in CA-45. This funding had already been promised to our district for projects like improvements to emergency operations centers in Los Alamitos and Garden Grove, water quality infrastructure in Buena Park and La Palma, and fire station improvements in Fountain Valley. This proposal by House Republicans backtracks on this commitment and rips this funding away from our communities.

“Additionally, the CR cuts federal support for law enforcement, woefully underfunds disaster response for wildfires and hurricanes, cuts funding for affordable housing and food programs for seniors, and denies Veterans critical care to treat exposure to toxic chemicals during their service.

“Not only does this proposal fail to adequately fund critical programs that working families rely on, it also provides a blank check for the Trump Administration to continue its chaotic cuts to federal resources while undermining Congress’s essential oversight duties. Instead of working across the aisle to pass a budget that works for working families, House Republicans’ stopgap measure empowers the Trump Administration to continue to fire Veterans working in civil service and dismantle agencies critical to our national security and economic prosperity.”
