Congressman Derek Tran Responds to President Trump’s Joint Address

Tuesday, March 4, 2025

Washington, DC – Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) issued the following response to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress:

“Tonight, I went to the Capitol to listen to President Trump’s address with an open mind and a steadfast commitment to my constituents in California’s 45th district.

“I hoped to hear about the President’s plans to lower costs for working families, keep Americans safe, and protect our status as a global leader for freedom and democracy.

“Unfortunately, President Trump focused his attention on political posturing, divisive rhetoric, and cruel insults. His address celebrated policies that will make health care inaccessible to millions, raise costs on basic necessities, and cede American global influence to malign actors like China and Russia.

“I am extremely disappointed that the President did not present a clear plan to protect our Veterans, including those who have been recklessly fired from their civil service careers. These Veterans, like my guest Albert Ostering, have dedicated their lives to public service. They put on the uniform and sacrificed for our freedom and after they were given the chance to use their expertise and serve our country as civilians, the Trump Administration ripped that opportunity away.

“Veterans sacrificed so much for us, I’m proud to continue to stand up for them.

“Although I am disappointed in the President’s remarks, I am not deterred. I remain committed to working with both sides of the aisle to deliver for my constituents and ensure that CA-45 is the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
