Congressman Derek Tran Celebrates Advancement of Key Small Business Legislation
Washington, DC – Today, key legislation led by Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) passed with bipartisan support out of the House Small Business Committee.
The Connecting Small Businesses with Career and Technical Education Graduates Act (H.R. 1642) will help small business owners fill gaps in their workforce by connecting them with graduates of vocational programs through the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Development Centers and Women’s Business Centers. The Plain Language in Contracting Act (H.R. 787) requires contract solicitations for small businesses be written in clear and concise language, free from complex government jargon. This common sense legislation eliminates burdens on small businesses and bolsters opportunities for communities to grow their local economies and create good paying jobs.
“I grew up working in a community-based small business and I believe that community-based businesses drive our economy and support working people. I’m proud to bring that experience to Congress,” said Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45). “The Plain Language in Contracting Act and the Connecting Small Businesses with Career and Technical Education Graduates Act expand critical opportunities for small business owners, especially Veterans and immigrant entrepreneurs. I know firsthand the challenges of starting a small business and I’m proud to lead this bipartisan effort to empower local businesses, support our economy, and ensure that every entrepreneur has the opportunity to succeed.”
