Fullerton Observer: Representative Derek Tran Calls on House Republicans to Get Back to Work to Pay U.S. Troops
Eight days into the government shutdown endangering health care and raising costs on Californians, U.S. Representatives Derek Tran (CA-45), a U.S. Army veteran, and Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) sent a letter to Speaker Johnson, calling on him to bring Republican lawmakers back to work in Washington to ensure U.S. troops are paid by the October 15 deadline. The letter was co-signed by 75 other House Democrats.
“While our troops go without pay, House Republicans are on paid vacation. It’s disgraceful,” said Congressman Derek Tran. “As an army veteran, I know what it means to miss a paycheck when you’ve got a family counting on you. Because Washington Republicans refuse to do their jobs, three million military families will be put in jeopardy. Our troops never stop serving this country, it’s time Congress did the same.”
As Californians face a massive spike in health care costs, Republicans are also canceling $8 billion in clean energy projects that would put 200,000 Californians to work – all while federal employees and active-duty service members go without pay.
