Representative Tran Visits Local Health Care Providers, Addresses Concerns Regarding Major Health Care Funding Cuts

Thursday, August 14, 2025

Orange County, CA – U.S. Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) visited two local health care providers in Garden Grove and Fullerton, CA, to hear directly from frontline care workers and discuss the impacts of the Republican budget package on Orange County’s health care system.

Representative Tran met with medical personnel and hospital administrators at Central City Community Health Center in Garden Grove, a primary care facility for Orange County families, and Terrace View Care Center in Fullerton, which offers 24-hour skilled nursing care and rehabilitative services to seniors. Providers at both facilities emphasized that the anticipated historic cuts to Medicaid and Medicare have already placed a strain on their ability to meet the community’s health care needs, as expected widespread health care coverage losses are placing an undue cost burden on their operations. Insufficient funding and staffing shortages affecting medical facilities like Central City and Terrace View often mean that Orange County’s most vulnerable residents–particularly seniors and those with disabilities–face immense difficulty accessing life-saving care.

“Our dedicated healthcare workers provide essential medical care to so many Orange County families – especially our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Representative Tran. “Their commitment to making health care more accessible is especially important as thousands in our district face losing health care coverage because of the so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’ Facilities like Central City and Terrace View remain essential lifelines for Medicaid recipients and children, seniors, and families across Orange County – but congressional Republicans’ cuts to our health care system are making it difficult for them to serve our community’s needs. I’m committed to working with our local health care heroes to secure the funding and resources they need to help our communities thrive.”

Representative Tran voted against the Republican budget reconciliation bill, which eliminates nearly $1 trillion in funding for essential healthcare through Medicaid. Representative Tran recently introduced H.R. 4317, the bipartisan PBM Reform Act, alongside Representative Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA-01), to encourage transparency and accountability in pharmacy benefit managers’ (PBM) practices and lower the cost of prescription medication for hard-working families. In conjunction with Representative Kathy Castor (FL-14), Tran co-introduced H.R. 4641, the Keep Kids Covered Act, which would reduce the cost of healthcare for parents by ensuring continuous healthcare coverage for all children enrolled in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). He also signed a discharge petition in the House to bring H.R. 2753, the Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act, to the House floor for a vote. Representative Tran co-led H.R. 3238, the HABLA Act, to protect multilingual access to health care services, and cosponsored several bills in support of women’s health care and abortion access.
