Representative Tran Releases Statement on Shooting at Fort Stewart Army Base
Orange County, CA -- U.S. Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) released the following statement in response to a shooting at Fort Stewart Army Base in Georgia, during which five military personnel were shot:
"I’m horrified to learn of the shooting of five brave service members at Fort Stewart Army Base in Georgia – the last duty station I was posted at when I served in the Army. This attack on the courageous soldiers who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country and its freedoms is abhorrent. I’m grateful to the on-site troops who rushed toward danger to secure the suspect, and to the first responders who continue to be heroes treating victims and arresting the suspect. My heart is with the victims, their families, and all others impacted by this senseless act of violence."
Representative Tran enlisted in the Army Reserve at age 18 and served for eight years. He was activated for Operation Noble Eagle/Enduring Freedom before earning an honorable discharge.
